  • About This Work

"I created my first Bowie paintings back in 2015 after visiting the 'David Bowie Is' exhibition in Melbourne. During that visit, I was gob-smacked by not only his musical genius but also his innovative artistic process (sometimes using early computers to generate random phrases into lyrics). His incredible fashion sense and bravery to defy current trends stood out too!

At that time, Bowie himself hadn't told the world he was unwell. I was working on paintings for a show overseas that portrayed him the day he died... my wife Katrina let me know the sad news as soon as I walked back into the house.

It was an incredible feat to keep his illness a secret, but he had one last parting gift to the world with the release of his Blackstar album shortly thereafter. I created the first 'Starman" screenprints, as a tribute, not long after he passed..."
