New Blood Pop is once again showing in 2025 at the art extravaganza that is Art in the Park, in Auckland, New Zealand:

His booth will contain brand new unique works extending his 'Digital Dilemma' series along with just completed fresh screenprint editions created with Artrite Screenprinting Ltd.

In bringing together a collection of his paper works the artist hopes to convey his passion for a long-respected artistic medium.

"I'm thrilled to be showcasing screenprinting as an artform... it's been an integral part of my art practice for 17 years, and the quality is second to none. My booth this year is not only about showing the work but also communicating how I create them!"

- Brad Novak

Art in the Park opens this week!!! With the grand opening on Thursday the 18th of September, and public viewing starting on Friday the 19th through the weekend.

Come along and see these new works and make sure to stop and say hi.

The artist will be onsite each day along with his assistants, Hayden and Finn, who are helping to run the booth!!

It's here!!

Brad Novak (aka New Blood Pop) has completed a new limited edition screenprint titled 'Father 4.1'.

About This Work

Continuing with his Digital Dilemma theme, in which he comments on the world’s ever-increasing digitisation, Novak again utilises Emojis to represent the ‘shortening’ of interpersonal communication.

His fascination with popular culture comes to the fore with Darth Vader caught mid pose reaching out to Luke as he tempts him to rule the galaxy ‘as father and son’.

“This, in my opinion, is the greatest twist in cinema history, Luke races to confront and kill the villain who ends up professing that he is, in fact, Luke’s father.

- Brad Novak

In the pose, Novak also sees similarities with Shakespeare’s Hamlet. In the play, Hamlet converses with the skull of a person he once knew. The scene uses comedy to comment on larger issues regarding life and death. It hints at the vanity of life and the existential crisis we humans face. Novak leverages this imagery to highlight a clever nexus where pop culture meets fine art.

The start of 2025 has been a busy time for Brad Novak (aka New Blood Pop) with not only continued creating and planning towards a new limited edition screenprint but also an exciting solo show.

He's also made time to discuss his unusual journey to become a practicing artist. Lewis Creed, the managing editor of Craccum magazine recently contacted Brad to interview him, and hopefully glean for the University magazine's audience any advice he might have for young people trying to find their way in the world.

The result is a nice summary of how life changes can be made with a combination of desire, grit and happenstance.

Novak credits his wife Katrina with introducing him to contemporary art at 'The Tate Modern', whilst on their OE in London in 2000-2001, and thereby changing his life forever:

"That visit was like a lightning strike, awakening my inner artist. I spent 2 hours discounting the quality of art, saying, "That’s crap, I could do that" and Katrina keep repeating “But you didn’t do it, Brad”."

- Brad Novak

Novak also has a number of limited edition screenprints that are near to selling out...
